Hebrews 2:6 What Is Mankind?

“But there is a place where someone has testified: What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him? Hebrews 2:6

The author of Hebrews quotes a Psalm about mankind. The question was asked as to what value is mankind that God should even recognize them and care for them. It is a question that many people ask about themselves. Why should God care about them?

Think about who God is. He is the One who created the universe and everything in it. The universe is too big for people to really comprehend it’s size. However, every person can see the sun, moon, and this earth itself.

Just think about how big this “little” earth is. Most people around the world have not traveled more than maybe a couple of hundred miles from their home. Even here in the USA most people stay reality close to where they grew up. There are children in the big cities who have grown up and never seen a forest.

For those who have traveled around the world, the world does seem a bit smaller. This is especially true when you travel across the world and end up meeting someone who knows someone you know. Then the world tends to feel a lot smaller than it really is.

Now, keeping the size of this world in mind, think about how small you are compared to this world? And this world is small compared to the sun, which is small compared to the solar system, which is small compared to the galaxy…and so on.

Yet, as small as you are, God is concerned about you. He created this world for you to live on. He had you in mind when He created this world. He gave all mankind power over the entire earth and everything on it.

He did this, not because man was some great creature, but because of His great love. God loves you and cares for you. You are worth a lot to Him.

The only reason you can see as to why God loves you is that God is love and that is what He does.

Knowing God’s love is this great for you, can you not but love Him in return?

How is your love for God today?

I pray today that you will realize how much God loves you; that you will know how much God cares for you; that you will see how great God is; and that you will give your life to God.
