Ephesians 5:3 No Hint Of Sin

“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.” Ephesians 5:3

Hints are little signs of something that is there. They are meant to point to something in a vague way, but not to be a clear indication of anything. It just shows that something is there or could be there. What they point to are supposed to be a secret and usually a surprise for another person.

Paul lists three things that there should not even be a hint of in a believer’s life. These three are: sexual immorality, impurity, and greed.

The world is open about these things. Nearly every TV show, movie, or song promote in some form or another sexual immorality. They either straight out show sexual immorality or they talk about it as though it is acceptable. Alongside of the sexual immorality is all types of impurities: lying, cheating, stealing, rudeness, disobedience, and the list goes on. Mixed with all of these is greed. People want more and more, and believe you should have it all and more.

Not having a hint of these things is a hard road to walk. Many believers do not purposely live in sexual immorality. Yet, these same ones will watch it, or tell jokes about it. These are hints. What a person watches, a person is thinking about.

Greed comes in the desire for more and more. Many believers want more in the thought that they will be able to give God more. While saying this they are not giving much of what they have, barely their tithe. Their thoughts are based in personal greed.

Take a look at your life. Are there any hints of these things in your life? What do you do? What do you think about?

Hints can pop up anywhere. If you were tried in a court that could know and see all, would you be found guilty? God sees and knows everything. Nothing is hidden from him. To Him it is not a hint but direct fact. To people they are hints. Jesus died so that you could live a holy, sinless life.

Ask God to help you remove all hints of all sin in your life. Be the holy person of God that God wants you to be and Jesus can make you.

I pray today that you will ask Jesus to remove all sin from your life; that you will turn away from all sin; that your life will be pure in Jesus; and that you will be a shining light of Jesus.


Ephesians 4:29 Speaking Correctly

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29

Paul had just finished talking about renewing the mind to be like Jesus, speaking truth, not being angry, and not stealing. Now he brings up how to speak.

In high schools and colleges there are speech classes to teach people how to do public speaking. They will teach how to speak clearly to get the point across to the listeners. What they do not teach is how to speak to build other people up and how to keep that speech wholesome.

It is easy to see the politicians and famous people in the spotlight when they speak, especially during election time. The speeches are often filled with slamming the other person. They like to show how the other person is bad or has failed.

Most people reading this will not be in one of those positions, yet, the speaking is pretty much the same. Everywhere a person goes it can be heard condemning remarks about a politician or the president. People are very quick to make jokes against the president or some other person.

In the workplace people will cut down their boss or other workers. They complain about their pay or working conditions. In the neighborhood, people will cut down their neighbor or state that they are lazy people because they do not mow their lawn. People often call children stupid for actions they do or the way they look. And these things are not even talking about cursing.

These are not wholesome ways to talk to or about people. Jesus said that you are to serve your neighbor–who is everyone you see or know. Serving is doing what is best for them. Helping build them up.

Clean talk is one that will not complain, curse, or cut down. This will build the person you are talking to or about up and also build those up who are hearing it.

Seek God on how to speak in order to build others up. You are to draw people to Jesus, not condemn them to hell.

I pray today that God will show you how you speak; that God will fill you with His love for others; that your words will build others up and draw them to Jesus; and that God will use you to build others up.

Ephesians 4:22-24 Put Off Your Old Self

“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:22-24

When some people accept Jesus into their lives, they feel that they are now saved and nothing more needs to be done. They continue to live life the same way that they always have. However, Paul points out that there must be a change.

The old way of life is life being lived without God in the picture. That life appears to be a great life–being fun and free, doing what one wants to do. Yet, it is corrupted. That life is filled with death. Just as a single cancer cell spreads through a body and eventually can kill it, so does the sinful life slowly spread through the whole body killing it.

You are to put of that old self. You are to turn away from your old sinful habits. The best way to do that is to renew your mind. Instead of thinking like the world does in what is in it for me, think about what is in it for God and others. Think about what does God want for you right now.

When you start thinking about what God wants for you, you will then start living like God does. You are to live a life that mirrors the life of Jesus. You are to live a life that is truly righteous and holy.

Every believer is to be holy. To be holy is to live your life without sin in it. Only Jesus can take away the sin, but once He has removed it, don’t pick it back up again. Live the life Jesus did.

Do not allow any more corruption in your life. Renew your mind and live for God. It is an abundant life that the world cannot give you.

I pray today that God will guide you in renewing your mind; that you will turn away from your old self; that you will live a righteous and holy life for God; and that God will guide you in how to live your life for Him.

Prayer and Help

My family and I have been going through a tough situation. We have been purchasing a home with some land for the last four years through an owner financed contract. A few weeks ago the owner, that is providing the financing for it, has chosen to void the contract. He has an attorney and is wanting us to vacate our home by October 4th this year.

Last year I had lost a very good paying job that was providing the money to pay the mortgage payments and all of our monthly expenses. Since then I do have a job, but it does not pay enough to even rent a place large enough for my family in this area. It is a real challenge just to pay the basic expenses of my family. It is not enough to allow paying for our mortgage. My longer term goal for a job is to get into full time teaching, which would pay enough.

I have eight children and we love this place. It is an older mobile home, so we are unable to get a bank to finance it at all. We would love to be able to stay in this place.

We are struggling to make the monthly mortgage payments and now we have an attorney to get legal assistance and guidance in this situation. The owner does not want to honor the contract we agreed upon, nor does he want to return the money we have paid over the last four years.

Ephesians 4:1 Living A Worthy Life

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” Ephesians 4:1

All throughout every society in the world there are certain social standards that a person is expected to live up to depending on his social position in the area. A person who is a CEO of some corporation is expected to always dress in a nice suit and tie at every major meeting. Judges are expected to judge in complete fairness and honesty. Police are expected to never break the laws they are enforcing on others.

In “lower” levels there are standards for some families. Children of a wealthy or well-known person are usually held to higher standards of living. They are expected to not do certain things that would bring shame to the family. In some parts of the world if a child brings a level of shame to the family name, he is often cut off from the family and disowned.

As Paul is writing this verse, he is in prison for preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is telling every believer to live a life that is worthy of the calling.

God has called every believer to live their life as Jesus did and to be His witness to every person, every where. This life is to be a perfect, holy life. You, as a believer, represent God here on this earth. He is the highest authority. There is no greater honor given to anyone than to represent God Himself.

Living your life for Jesus may mean having to be thrown in prison as Paul was. At times it will mean you will go through difficulties and troubles. Yet, while going through this, do you cave in to the world’s way of living? Or are you living as Jesus would?

Are you working at loving everyone, including your enemies? Are you patient with others?

If God were to judge you right now on how you are living your life, where would you stand?

Be willing to pay the price by living a life worthy of your calling. You have been called to eternal life, being a child of God, being His ambassador, and being His witness. What better calling could there be?

Are you living up to that calling?

I pray today that you will know the calling of God in your life; that you will see the value of that calling; that you will live your life for God; and that you will live your life as Jesus did.

Ephesians 3:20-21 God Is Able To Do More

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21

Throughout time, men and women have done some incredible things. In the ancient days one can see the great pyramids in Egypt. Later one can see the amazing building of the Great Wall of China. During the 1800s was the invention of the printing press and the various medicines were developed to help people. In the last hundred years, from cars to airplanes to traveling to the moon. The ability to take metal and make it work like the computers and smart phones is amazing feats of men.

People are honored for the things that they have done. People look at inventors and stand in awe of what they are capable of doing.

Yet, with all these things done, the great imaginations of mankind, God can do much more. There is no way to measure how much God can do. Remember that He created everything that there is. He even created the ability for man to invent new things.

It is good that people get honored for what they have done, but have you forgotten about God and what He can do?

In life you may be going through a battle that does not look good for you. The odds appear to be stacked against you. Go to God with it and trust Him. He can do more than you can possibly imagine. If God can created everything you see in this universe and wonderful world, don’t you think He can meet your “small” problems in life?

Knowing this be willing to trust Him and give Him the glory. Realize that it is His power that allowed you to get through a situation in life. It was His doing that provided for all of your needs. Tell everyone you know about what God has done for you, and is doing for you, and will do for you. Give God the credit, not yourself or other people.

What will you ask God for today? What will you trust God for today?

I pray today that you will know the power that God has to help you; that you will trust Him; that you will give God the glory for things done; and that you will tell others of God’s work in your life.

Ephesians 3:19 Filled With God

“And to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:19

Paul is finishing a prayer that the Ephesians would fully grasp how great the love of Jesus is. This love is so great that is surpasses all knowledge. The purpose of knowing this love is to be filled with all of God.

God is described as love. He is the perfect image of what love is. Perfect love is what helps one make perfect decisions every time. Love makes decisions out of concern for others, not for self. God loves all of the people of the world so much that He was willing to sacrifice His own son on a cross in order to help them. Jesus loves every person so much that He was willing to be the sacrifice to help them. This kind of love is so great that people cannot fully understand it.

Once a person can begin to understand this love, he knows that he has started to get the fullness of God in Him. When a person understands His love, he will then begin to love others in the same way. He will also begin to love God in the same way.

Loving others and God in the way God loves you, will mean that you will be willing to sacrifice yourself for others and for God. You will be willing to lay down your desires for God’s desires. You will be filled with God and His perfect love.

Everything that you say and do must be rooted in God’s love for you and for others. When you understand God’s love, you will not want to hurt God. When you understand His love for others, you will not want to hurt others.

At that point you are filled with God. God cannot be where sin is. When you are filled with His love, there will be no sin in you. You will have repented of those sins and been forgiven. You will turn away from all sin.

Are you filled with the full measure of God? Are you grasping the fullness of His love?

I pray today that you will you will know all of God’s love for you and others; that you will have His love for others; that you will allow God to work His love in your life; and that you will be filled with the full measure of God.
