Revelation 7:16-17 No Hunger, No Thirst

“Never again will they hunger, never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Revelation 7:16-17

As the month of August ends and September begins you are familiar with the hot sun and scorching heat, especially if you live in the south. If you are like me, you do not like that much heat.

The physical heat of the sun can cause a lot of damage. It can burn the skin, kill plants, and cause fires. Depending on where you live, will depend on how much damage the sun causes. The further south you live, the more sun you will get. The more sun means more damage is possible.

In life, you will also have the heat of the temptation to sin and the stress of problems. You are promised that there will be both temptations and problems in your life. These things will beat down on you to try and destroy you.

Keep your focus on Jesus. He knows the power of temptations and the pain of problems. He can give you the strength to overcome in this life. Once He returns and brings you into heaven, there will no longer be any of these temptations and problems. Look forward to that time.

With that heat the grass and trees turn brown, and the ponds and lakes dry up and often water rationing begins in many places. It is difficult to work outside and it brings about a great thirst for more water.

Along with the heat of the season schools are starting up again. Many children are going to school. Many of these same children are going to school with not having been able to eat anything since a little the day before.

Many people and children are hungry with no food to eat. This is not just in third world countries but also here in America.

In these verses you see that in the end there will be no more hunger or thirst. There is two things in this hunger and thirst. First is the physical. No longer will believers be hungry or thirsty for food and water. There will be plenty of food.

With having physical food and water, there is also a spiritual hunger and thirst that will be satisfied. As a believer you should be hungry for more of God’s Word in your life. You should be thirsty for more of His Holy Spirit to fill you.

When you get to heaven you will have God directly with you. You will no longer be hungry and thirsty to have His Word or His Holy Spirit. You will be satisfied in your spirit.

The whole reason for this is because Jesus will be at the center of the throne leading you to springs of living water. It is the water that provides true life. The food and water you have today will only leave you wanting for more later. God’s food and water sustains for all eternity.

Today you will have hunger and thirst. You will have struggles and troubles. Some day all those problems will be gone. It will be worth it all to follow Jesus today and everyday. The end will be far greater than anything good that can come today. The good things today are only temporary, in heaven they will be for eternity.

I pray that today God will strengthen you to stay true to Him; that you will hunger and thirst only for more of God’s Word and His Holy Spirit; that you will allow God to be your shepherd; and that you will know the future you will have some day in Jesus.

Revelation 7:10 Who Brings Salvation

“And they cried out in a loud voice: Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” Revelation 7:10

In the world people are looking for the person who will save their country, or state, or business or anything else. They want someone who will meet their needs.

Every four years in America, the people vote for a president. As they vote they are hoping he is the one who will make the needed changes to save the nation. As the campaigns go, each person running promises to do better than the other one. Change for the better is expected in the economy, education, law enforcement, freedoms, wars, and taxes.

Other times, people look to drugs and alcohol to save them from their struggles and frustrations. Some will look to movies and music to lose themselves in. Many will go out and buy stuff to make them happy or to look better.

This is a common thread everywhere you look. People know there is a problem. The problem is knowing where to look for the solution to the problem and know what the problem really is.

Very few realize the problem is sin, and fewer realize that the solution is found in Jesus.

In this verse you see a great multitude of people from around the world who followed God and survived the tribulation. The one thing they know is that salvation belongs to God and Jesus.

No other person can bring salvation. No religion, or denomination, or group can give you salvation. It is found only in God through Jesus Christ.

During the end times there will be a man called the anti-Christ who will rise up to “save” the world. He will do many things that look good, but in the end he will not follow Jesus. He will be a man of destruction and of the devil in the end. This crowd of people knew where the salvation came from and did not waver in that.

Although this passage is looking into the future, it is still true today. You cannot find the relief you really need in nothing and no one else but Jesus. Only God can bring about salvation. This is salvation from sin, sickness, problems, hatred, pain and all other things.

I pray that today you will look to Jesus for your salvation; that you will trust in God for everything you need; that God will reveal to you His plans for your life; that God will meet all of your needs; and that you will be His witness to the world that only Jesus saves.

Revelation 6:11 Rough Times Ahead

“Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been.” Revelation 6:11

One of the seals was opened and John saw under the altar of God the souls of the people who were killed because of their following Jesus. These souls cried out to God asking how long it would be until He gets vengeance for their deaths. Today’s verse answers that question.

They were given a white robe. This symbolizes the righteousness of Jesus. No person has righteousness in and of themselves. Jeremiah wrote that our righteousness is as filthy rags. These souls were declared righteous by their faith in following Jesus.

Once they were given that robe, they were told they had to wait a little longer until more fellow believers were killed. No one can say how long a little longer is. God is outside of time. He always was and always will be. A “little time” may be a few days or it could be 10,000 years. No one knows.

The difficult part is that during this wait, more people were to be killed for their faith. In fact, God has a specific number of deaths in mind. He stated that they had to wait until the full number of believers were killed.

Many people have a hard time with this. Why would God allow the death of believers in the form of a murder? Remember that man cannot really take your life. Man can kill the body, but cannot touch the soul. When your body dies, your soul goes to be with God for all eternity, if you believe in Jesus.

It should be a joy to see a believer die, regardless of how he dies. When he dies, you know that he has no more pain or suffering. That person is now in heaven with God with a perfect body.

God is a patient God and does not want anyone to perish in their sins. He needs people to be His witness on this earth. Man will continue to sin and get worse with it. In order to have the witnesses He must also be willing to see some of them killed. This explains why He must have a number set for those to be killed.

Rest in God in knowing He knows what is happening. God is still in control. In the end you will be blessed beyond all measure. Wait for His return. Wait for His timing on vengeance.

I pray today that God will give you strength to be His witness; that God will give you peace in that He is in control; that you will be patient waiting for His vengeance; and that you will stay true to God in all that you do.

Revelation 5:9-10 Kingdom and Priests

“And they sang a new song, saying: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.” Revelation 5:9-10

In this part of John’s vision of heaven there is a scroll that is sealed. No one could be found to be worthy to open it, except Jesus. He is the Lamb of God who was slain and is risen.

The reason for being slain was to shed His blood. The purpose for shedding His blood was to purchase individual people from every tribe, language and nation for God. The purpose for this purchase was to make them into a kingdom and to be priests to serve God and reign on the earth.

When God made this earth and placed man on it, He did not do it just to rule over it with an iron fist. God wanted to have a relationship with man and allow man to rule the earth with Him.

Man has chosen to try to rule in his own way. This is where sin had come in and destroyed man. Although man chose the wrong path, it did not change God’s desires for man.

Jesus died on the cross to buy mankind back to be able to do what was originally intended. All believers are now a part of a kingdom that has no boundaries. This kingdom stretches around the world and will last for eternity.

Along with being a part of this kingdom, each person can be a priest. This is the person who stands before God for other people and stands before the people for God. He is the instrument God uses to spread His Word.

Are you allowing God to use you to be one of His priests today? This is not just on Sundays or in church, it is everywhere you go.

Are you letting other people know that they can be a part of His kingdom today? Do not close the doors on other people because they are different. Point everyone to Jesus and what He has done for them. Build His kingdom today.

As you build His kingdom give Him the worship due Him. He is the only one worthy of all praise.

I pray today that God will reveal to you your part in His kingdom; that God will reveal to you how to be His priest; that God will show you how to serve Him; that God will help you reign on this earth over the evil spirits in this world; and that you will build His kingdom.

Revelation 4:11 God is Worthy

“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” Revelation 4:11

As the living creatures are worshipping God, so are the elders. They continually, day and night, state this verse about God being worthy.

They first state that He is worthy to receive glory. This glory is the fame and recognition of who He is and what He has done. No one in all of history can state that they have created everything by their will and word. Only God has the position.

You have your being because God has willed you to have it. Give God the glory for your existence by telling others about Him and what He has done for you.

Next, they give God honor. This is placing high value on God. It is lifting Him up by telling of what He has done and giving Him that high position that no one else can take.

Think about how valuable God is to you. Some will say that He has nothing to do with them. According to the Scriptures the only reason you exist is because of God. Are you enjoying life? Do you want to be alive? If so, than honor God, because without Him you would not have any life at all.

Finally they give God all power. God created everything you see. How much power does it take to do that? Man cannot create anything from nothing, but that is exactly what God did. He deserves the power.

You may recognize that God has the power of creation, but have you given God the power over your life? Have you given God the ability to choose what you do or do not do?

Many people have no problems with God have power in creation, but they do have problems with Him having power in their life. They want to be like the prophets of the Bible, but do not want to lose the control of their life.
Give God all control in your life. He is worthy of it.

Today give God all the glory, honor and power in and for everything in your life. He earned this position by being God and creating everything there is.

I pray today that you will give God the glory due Him; that you will give God the honor due Him; that you will give God the power due Him; that you will allow yourself to be completely controlled by God; that God will reveal more of Himself to you; and that God will use you to build His kingdom.

Revelation 4:9-10 Falling Down

“Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:” Revelation 4:9-10

Yesterday you started to see a part of the vision that John had of heaven. You saw the four living creatures worshipping God around the clock. Now you see twenty-four elders worshipping God also.

It will not be debated here as to who those twenty-four elders are, but it will be looked at what they did. Notice that every time the living creatures give any glory, honor or thanks to God what these elders did. They would fall down before God, worship Him, and place their crowns before Him.

Think about how often this happened. The living creatures were proclaiming praise in a single sentence over and over, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, for all time. Each time they finished their sentence these elders would fall down, worship, and lay their crowns down. Then they would get up and it would start over again.

Falling down is a laying yourself before God. When you are laying down you are vulnerable to those around you. You cannot defend yourself or fight back. You are at the mercy of the one before you.

Along with falling down they placed their crowns before God. This implies that these elders had some position of power and authority. Yet, before God, they laid down that position and authority. They yielded complete control to God.

These elders saw and understood the holiness of God. They did not take God lightly or as just God. They saw Him as God Almighty, the one in absolute control.

Today you need to lay yourself before God. Allow Him to have absolute control over your life. Make yourself vulnerable to God. Worship Him with everything in you. Worship Him around the clock. Every moment of your day realize who He is and who you are.

I pray that today you will be able to yield complete control to God; that you will lay down your own power before God; that you will worship God with your whole life; that God will reveal more of Himself to you; and that God will use you to build His kingdom.

Revelation 4:8 Holy Is God

“Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is, and is to come.” Revelation 4:8

In this chapter you are given a small vision of heaven. God is on the throne and around the throne were some living creatures with wings.

This sight must have been amazing. Just a few verses before this one you are told that there was lightning and thunder coming from the throne. This is a sign of great power. There may have been some fear in John’s heart as he saw this vision of heaven and God’s throne.

Now comes this verse telling you what these living creatures were saying. They describe God as holy. Not only do they say it once, but three times each time they make the statement. Along with the three times in each statement this statement is repeated over and over, day and night, never-ending. They do not get tired of making that statement.

Why would they continue to say this? They realize how holy God really is. God is perfectly holy. There is no shadow of wrong in Him at all.

There are some people who will say God is not really good because of something bad that happened in their life. Others will say God is just a good God.

God is more than just good…He is perfect, without any sin. This is difficult for some people to accept. When you look at a person, you can always find some fault somewhere in their life. However, looking at God, you will never find any fault at all in Him.

Once you can get this idea of how holy God really is, you will also be able to say with the living creatures “holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty.” You will not only say it but be able to say it day and night, never-ending.

As you see how holy God is, you will then see how horribly sinful you are. As you begin to see how horribly sinful you are, you will see your need for the salvation Jesus provided for you. You will also see how much God loves you in providing that salvation for you. It rolls around again to seeing how holy God is in providing that salvation for you.

I pray today that God will give you a vision of how holy He is; that you will seek to be holy as God is holy; that you will grasp the holiness that Jesus provides for you; and that you will never get tired of worshipping God in word and deed.
